The three steps, in full
Smile work gets chosen, priced, and checked. These are the three steps you control as the person paying. They're not a treatment plan, and only a licensed dentist who examines you can say what your teeth need.
1. Chosen
- Whether a procedure fits is a dentist's call after an exam. Placing veneers over unhealthy teeth may worsen existing problems, so health comes first. [S1]
- Some choices can't be undone. Veneers are not reversible, because enamel is removed to place them. [S1]
- For implants, your health is more of a factor than your age, and chronic illnesses such as diabetes may interfere with healing. [S2]
- Before you start, ask what you're choosing between, what can't be undone, and what happens if it fails. The guides list questions for each.
2. Priced
- The American Dental Association does not quote fees for dental procedures. It stopped its Survey of Dental Fees in 2023. [S3]
- In Florida, a dentist's advertised fee has to say it's a minimum fee only, and has to name the specific ADA procedure code or wording. [S4]
- Cosmetic work such as veneers may not be covered by insurance unless it's deemed medically necessary. [S1]
- What moves the price is covered on What changes the price.
3. Checked
- In Florida, practicing dentistry without an appropriate, active license issued by the state is prohibited. [S5]
- You can check a Florida license yourself on the Florida Department of Health's License Verification lookup. Miami Smile Works does not list or rank dentists. [S6]
- The Florida Board of Dentistry's site also lets you file a complaint. [S7]
Then take your questions to a licensed dentist. Only a dentist who examines you can diagnose.
